Because I know everyone is on the edge of their seat after last week’s entry, I ended up going with the Nokia 3120. It’s compact, light and has a reasonably long talk time. As far as talk time goes, the Sony Ericsson T237 seems to be king (at least, going by the statistics), but I didn’t like the keypad (nor did I particularly love the screen or the controls). The Nokia was better in this respect, and I’ve always been happy with Nokia phones.
It’s a bit of a low end phone, but the high end phones don’t seem to have gotten to a point where it’s really worth it just yet. The Sony Ericsson W800i seems really interesting. I’m in the market for an MP3 player as well, so it would be really nice to get that functionality with the phone. The cameras in phones are getting better and better as well (to the point where they’re better than my digital camera, which is getting pretty old). Hitting three birds with one stone would be really nice, but unfortunately, the W800i isn’t out yet (and some are reporting that it won’t be released in the States at all), would probably cost a fortune even if it was available, and I’m sure that better models will eventually become available anyway, which is why I don’t mind getting the low end model now…
Anyway, thanks for everyone’s help. It was very… helpful. Um, yeah. Thanks.
Good choice. I really like the keypad on that Nokia. It looks I may be able to use something very similar (the Nokia 6015i) with the Verizon plan. Charles’ parents say the contract will end soon, so that would be a good time to buy phones at a discount.
I recently got a new phone myself, though I went with a flip phone for the first time ever. Although I like it a lot, I am worried about the inherent flimsiness…yours looks quite a bit sturdier. I’ve never really used a Nokia myself, so I don’t know much of anything about them, but the specs look pretty decent…6 hrs talk time on the battery is pretty good.
I swtiched to an LG VX4500, from an old Motorola I’d learned to hate. I have Verizon, so my choices were pretty much a whole bunch of LG models, or one really expensive Motorola…I went with a nice cheap LG.
Like you, I stayed away from all the high end stuff…like camaras and the like…my phone is pretty much just a phone.
It’s surprisingly fun to compare cell phones…somewhat geeky, but fun.
Verizon doesn’t seem to have that great of a selection when it comes to the candy-bar style phones (unsurprising considering the technology behind Verizon). The 6015i seems to be a slightly bigger version of the one I chose, and it has less talk time too. If I was going verizon, I’d probably end up with a flip-phone. I liked a couple of the Samsung models they had, but they all had comparable talk time to the 6015i and weren’t that much smaller.
I really, really wanted a phone with good battery life, so the 3120 was pretty good. The Sony Ericsson T237 claims to have 720 min talk-time, which is obscene (and probably doesn’t work out that well in reality), but I couldn’t deal with the small keypad and I didn’t much care for the display either…
It was fun to compare cell phones though. Geeky, and ironic that I ended up going with something I probably could have chosen without doing any research at all:P I’m actually kinda surprised that cell phones aren’t… better than they are now. I figure in about 2 years, my dream phone will be more attainable, so for now, I’ll make do with what I got:)
hi
i use nokia 3120
but cannot connect it to my PC
can you help me?
Meysam, you need to buy the connectivity kit. It’s usually listed under accessories wherever they sell the phones. From looking around online, it looks obscenely expensive – the cheapest I found were around 30 bucks (I think)…
